Overview

The map collection has worldwide coverage with a focus on California and the Central Valley.  Of special interest are our aerial photographs, primarily of Fresno County, which date back to 1937.  We also have large collections of atlases and gazetteers.  The core map collection consists of maps published by U.S. federal and California state agencies such as the US and California Geological Surveys, most of which are acquired through the U.S. and California depository library programs.

We are open to the public and welcome community use of our resources.

Access & Hours

We are on the 1st floor of the new library building.
Most of our material can be identified via the library catalog.   Atlases and gazetteers are on open shelves.  Our maps and aerial photographs are in a closed area and will be retrieved for you.

During Spring Recess 2013, we are open by appointment only Monday-Friday, March 25-29
The library building is closed Saturday-Sunday, March 23-24, and Saturday-Monday, March 30-April 1.

When the library building is open, our usual hours are:
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

With advance notice, arrangements may be made to use most material in the closed area at other times by contacting us at 559/ 278-2405

Maps are listed in the library catalog.  Some titles in the catalog are very large sets of maps which don't have the individual sheets listed in the catalog, for example, Colorado, 7.5 minute series (topographic) .  If you request sets like this, we will work with you to determine the specific sheets you need.  Many maps can be borrowed for use outside the library
