The Instruction and Outreach Services (IOS) Department in the Henry Madden Library prepares California State University, Fresno students to become information literate individuals. Information literacy is defined as "the ability to recognize when information is needed and to locate, evaluate, and use it effectively". This set of skills is essential in today's world. 

At the core of IOS's instructional program is the commitment to the concept of Information Literacy as outlined by the Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.
